About 24-hour care
When occasional help is no longer enough.
Some people need more than a few hours of help a day. Whether because of advanced age, a chronic health condition, or growing care needs, continuous support brings greater safety and reassurance for the whole family.
At PrimeCare In-Home Support, our 24-hour care provides compassionate, non-medical assistance throughout the day and night, so your loved one can keep living at home while receiving the ongoing support they need. It is part of our specialized care services.
If only the night hours are a concern, our overnight care may be enough. We’ll help you decide at your free assessment.

Is it the right fit?
Seven signs 24-hour care may make sense.
Continuous care may be a good fit if your loved one:
- Requires assistance throughout the day and night
- Is at increased risk of falls or wandering
- Needs frequent help with mobility or transfers
- Experiences advanced memory loss or confusion
- Is recovering from a serious illness or hospitalization
- Cannot safely remain alone for extended periods
- Has family caregivers who need additional support
Not sure? Our team will assess your family’s needs and recommend an appropriate care plan.

How 24-hour care is scheduled
Two 12-hour shifts or live-in care: we help you choose.
A rested caregiver is a safer caregiver. We build the schedule so your loved one always has attentive care and every caregiver gets the rest they need.
Two 12-hour shifts
Two caregivers share the day, so someone rested and alert is always awake and on duty. This is the arrangement many families choose, and it fits clients who need help or supervision through the night.
Live-in care
One caregiver stays in the home and has a private place to rest, with time to sleep. It works best when your loved one sleeps through most of the night and rarely needs help after bedtime.
Decided at your assessment
The right care arrangement depends on your loved one’s needs, overnight assistance requirements, safety concerns, and home environment. We’ll help you choose the most suitable option during your free in-home assessment and adjust the care plan as needs change.
Peace of mind for the whole family
Rest is part of caring well.
Providing care around the clock is exhausting. Family Caregiver Alliance notes that caregivers often skip their own sleep, nutrition, exercise, and medical appointments, and it explains why taking care of yourself is not selfish. The Alzheimer’s Association also shares guidance on caregiver stress.
- Rest knowing a caregiver is on duty, day and night
- Fewer worries about falls and wandering
- One clear care plan for the whole day and night
- Flexible scheduling that adjusts as needs change
If you only need a break now and then, our respite care can help too.

For families
Simple ways to keep days and nights safer.
Reduce fall risks
Clear trip hazards, improve lighting, and add grab bars. The CDC’s fall prevention tips are a good place to start, and our mobility assistance adds steady help.
Plan for wandering
The Alzheimer’s Association says six in 10 people living with dementia will wander at least once. Night lights, a steady routine, and attentive supervision all help.
Support a steady sleep routine
Regular bedtimes and wake times help many older adults sleep better. NCOA explains common sleep problems in older adults, and a doctor can look into persistent ones.

What is 24-hour home care?
24-hour home care is continuous, non-medical support day and night in the client’s own home. It covers personal care, mobility, meals, medication reminders, safety supervision, and companionship, so your loved one is never without help when it matters.
What is the difference between 24-hour care and overnight care?
Overnight care covers the night hours only, while 24-hour care provides support throughout both the day and the night. See our overnight care page, and during the free assessment we help you decide which fits your loved one’s needs.
Is 24-hour care medical care?
No. PrimeCare provides non-medical care. Caregivers assist with daily living, safety, and comfort, and can offer medication reminders, but they do not provide clinical or medical treatment.
Who provides 24-hour care at PrimeCare?
Every caregiver is a Registered Home Care Aide with the CDSS and completes fingerprinting and a full criminal background check before working with clients.
Is 24-hour care provided by one caregiver or more than one?
It depends on your loved one’s needs, and we decide together at the free in-home assessment. Many families choose two 12-hour shifts, so a rested, alert caregiver is always on duty. A live-in arrangement, where one caregiver stays in the home and has time to sleep, can work when your loved one sleeps through most of the night. Scheduling is flexible, with a 4-hour minimum shift.
Can the caregiver sleep during a live-in shift?
Yes, a live-in caregiver needs a private place to rest and enough uninterrupted sleep to stay alert and safe. That is why live-in care suits clients who rarely need help overnight. If your loved one needs frequent night-time help, we recommend awake overnight coverage, usually through two 12-hour shifts.
Can 24-hour care help with dementia, wandering, or night-time confusion?
Yes. Continuous care means someone is always nearby to offer calm reassurance and attentive supervision, which helps with wandering risks and confusion at any hour. Because these changes can have medical causes, we also encourage families to talk with a doctor. See our dementia care and Alzheimer’s care pages.
Can 24-hour care be short-term, such as after a hospital stay?
Yes. Many families arrange continuous care for a limited time while a loved one recovers, then adjust the schedule as strength returns. Learn more about post-hospital recovery care.
How much does 24-hour care cost?
Cost depends on the schedule and level of care. PrimeCare offers flexible scheduling with a 4-hour minimum shift, from a few shifts a week up to 24-hour care. See our billing page or contact our team for a personalized quote.
