Home care questions, answered
What is non-medical home care?
Non-medical home care is everyday help that lets an older adult stay safe, comfortable and independent at home. It includes personal care, meal preparation, companionship, transportation and light housekeeping. It does not include clinical or medical treatment.
How do I choose a home care agency?
Start with licensing, insurance and bonding, how caregivers are screened, and how the agency adjusts care as needs change. PrimeCare is a licensed home care organization (HCO #014700283), and every caregiver is a CDSS-registered Home Care Aide who is fingerprinted and background checked before their first shift. Our guide, Questions to ask before choosing a home care agency, lists what to ask.
How much does home care cost?
Cost depends on the hours and the level of care needed. PrimeCare sets pricing case by case, with a 4-hour minimum per shift scheduled as one continuous block. Our guide, Understanding the cost of home care, explains what affects the price.
Does insurance help pay for home care?
If your loved one has private insurance, such as a long-term care policy, PrimeCare helps with the paperwork your insurer needs. Many families pay invoices first and are reimbursed once the documents are settled. What a policy covers, and how quickly it reimburses, depends on the insurer.
How quickly can care begin?
In most cases, PrimeCare can complete a free in-home assessment and begin care within 24 to 48 hours of first contact. The assessment has no cost, no obligation and no commitment.
Where does PrimeCare provide home care?
PrimeCare is based in San Leandro, California, and serves families in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, San Francisco and Santa Clara counties.
